Position the VMware networking solution
Position the Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch in the VMware infrastructure, install the Virtual Supervisor and Virtual Ethernet Modules, and establish an SVS connection to the vCenter Server
Configure the key features of the Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch and understand how these features are used in the data center virtual infrastructure design
Identify which management features should be implemented on the Cisco Nexus 1000V and how to configure the features selected
Identify which tools can be used when troubleshooting the Cisco Nexus 1000V and how to troubleshoot key features

  • Install vCenter Server
  • Create a Data Center and Add ESX Hosts
  • View the vNetwork Standard Switch Configuration
  • Create a VMkernel Port on the Standard Switch, vSwitch0
  • Create NFS Datastores
  • Create a Virtual Machine Port Group on vSwitch0
  • Upload a Virtual Machine to NFS Datastore
  • Add the Virtual Machine to the vCenter Server Inventory

Install the Cisco Nexus 1000V VSM

  • Prepare the VLAN infrastructure
  • Download the Cisco Nexus 1000V Software to Your Remote PC
  • Install Cisco Nexus 1000V VSM
  • Install Secondary Cisco Nexus 1000V VSM

Install the Cisco Nexus 1000V VEM

  • Create VLANs
  • Create an Uplink Port Profile
  • Connect the Cisco Nexus1000V VEM to the Cisco Nexus 2000 Fabric Extender
  • Create a Data Port Profile for Virtual Machines
  • Test Cisco Nexus 1000V Functionality

Optimize the Cisco Nexus 1000V Implementation

  • Modify the Uplink Port Profile to Implement MAC Pinning
  • Assign Additional VMNICs to MAC Pinning Uplink Port Profile
